Your eating habits play a significant role in your oral health, and that fact will not change if you choose to enhance your smile with veneers. But will you have to make major adjustments to how and what you consume after you undergo cosmetic treatment? If you have ever wondered if veneers will change your diet, read this blog post.
Temporary vs. Permanent Veneers
As part of your treatment process, you will have to wear temporary veneers for a while. During the weeks that you have them, you will need to be careful about what you eat. Temporary veneers are more vulnerable to damage than their permanent counterparts, so you may have to avoid sticky, hard, and highly pigmented foods.
With permanent veneers, you can feel free to indulge in pretty much all of your favorite foods. They are highly resistant to stains and durable enough to stand up to virtually any meal or snack. However, it would still be prudent to take some reasonable precautions. Wise dietary choices can extend their lifespan and help them maintain their beautiful appearance.
What Foods Should You Avoid with Veneers?
Here are a few examples of foods that you should limit your consumption of after you get veneers:
- Extremely hard foods. Things like ice, uncooked vegetables, and hard candies may chip or break your veneers.
- Highly pigmented items. Coffee, berries, red wine, and other pigmented items might cause your veneers to become discolored if you regularly overindulge.
- Alcohol. Alcohol may adversely affect the material that is used to bind veneers to your tooth enamel.
- Sticky foods. Things like caramels and taffies might pull temporary veneers right off of your teeth.
What Can You Eat with Veneers?
Here is a brief list of foods that considered to be safe for veneers:
- Soft foods. Noodles, cooked vegetables, poultry, and mashed potatoes are all good choices.
- Foods with minimal pigmentation. Pasta with white sauce, white dairy products, bananas, apples, and white fish are some foods that fall into this category.
- Nutrient-rich foods that support oral health. Foods rich in calcium, vitamin D, and vitamin C can support the well-being of the tissues that support veneers.
Veneers may require you to make some small changes to your diet, but you should still be able to enjoy all of your favorite treats!
